Not really a great school for academics. Has absolutely almost no AP courses. Good basketball team though.

We have been with Harvest since our child started kindergarten and they are finishing up fifth grade already. Harvest is a great school with outstanding teachers and staff!! It is evident that the staff has a true heart for the students and their families. We love the school and some of the new opportunities, but having said that we do have concerns over the continuing growth of the school as a whole and the increasing class size. The strain we have seen this having on the teachers and on the children as they get less personalized time is a huge negative despite the ‘bigger and better’ opportunities the school is offering now.

The parent community is very involved at this school and the teachers are top notch! Staff are welcoming and try to match new students with the best classroom for their personality.

This school is not diverse and it’s sad. My family had an horrible experience at this school and until this day I am traumatized. My daughter was the only black girl in the 3rd grade. She experienced bullying from staff’s and students. Staff would take pictures of her while on punishment and send it to other staff members. Principal did nothing but asked staff to delete and after they deleted had that staff member go to the police department and show them their phone. Teachers in the classroom would punish my child for every little thing she did. To the point where the students started to watch her and tell the staff and teacher everything she does. When my daughter reported other students calling her names she was told by teachers “mind her business”. The last three days of school three different boys students attacked her each day and the school did nothing. We had to remove my child from the school. THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE FOR BLACK CHILDREN.

Its school is one of the worst schools I’ve ever been in my entire life. The school 4 million dollars in debt and it’s all over the news. The food is terrible and not enjoyable. Bread is stale, the chicken is pink. the teachers are extremely boring. The school can’t afford an AC unit so in the spring time it’s extremely hot. The bathrooms are unclean. The stall doors get stolen some how. The bathrooms are also vandalized by the students. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!

My daughter started Fortune a few months ago. Every day she has mentioned the class being very disruptive, the teacher ( a long term sub) unable to control his students, and just feeling drained. Academically, they teacher very diverse subjects and have a lot of programs at the school, but it’s not worth it if she can’t focus. I’ve reached out constantly to the teachers and staff to see what their solutions are. They are very polite but don’t see to be proactive in finding a solution. Multiple people warned me about this school, but it just seemed like it had a great program structure. I’m a KIPP alumni, and Fortune was modeled after our program. I’m shocked. KIPP would never allow this type of setting.

There are two types of families that come here and two types of teachers that apply to work here. More than half of the families that apply here are looking for an alternative for their child, they want choice and involvement and are extremely happy that they found a place for their children to flourish. The other families that want a charter school want a smaller school size because they want to feel special, unfortunately they don't really know what they are looking for, they find it easy to complain about something without even committing themselves to understanding what an alternative learning environment is. When they no longer feel special because all there demands are not met, they fly and feel compelled to complain to the world. The same goes for the two types of teacher. Some teachers feel they are settling because they know that Charter school cannot pay as much as unionized districts can. Charter schools do not receive property tax money so they have to function on tight budgets. These teachers do not intend to put any effort into their work because they don't feel their getting paid enough. They continue to apply to large district to cash in on higher pay. When they get hired they leave the charter school high and dry as well as the poor families who have invested their emotions with these teachers. It's really sad and it's not the Charter schools fault. These teacher deceived the administration into hiring them, because some money is better than none until I can get more. These teachers should stay clear of applying when that is their intention to begin with. The teachers who truly want to teach with passion and support families are really dedicated and stay, unfortunately the counter culture produced by insincere applicants of both teachers and families cause a lot of trouble and sorrow. Charter school are here to benefit families who want choices and to advocate for their families educational experiences. The others should stay away, stop worrying about FOMO and stay at your district school, you don't need or really want choice.

Newtown, CT has a phenomenal school system. Elementary schools are K-4th grade. Newtown, unlike most towns in CT, has a separate Intermediate school for 5th & 6th grade. The Reed Intermediate School offers a true, age appropriate, intermediate school learning experience catering to the 5th and 6th grade student. After Reed, students attend Newtown Middle School, which provides an excellent, age appropriate 7th & 8th grade learning environment. Classes are organized in clusters of 4, so children switch out classes/teachers for the key subjects of english, science, social studies, and math, while still maintaining the "safe feeling" of being in a smaller group. As students progress through the school levels they are afforded greater independence and responsibility, commensurate with their age and abilities. Teachers are warm and welcoming. Bullying is never tolerated at any of the Newtown schools. Newtown has an excellent music program, beginning in the elementary schools. Students begin music lessons for their chosen instrument in 5th grade, while attending the Reed Intermediate School. These music lessons can continue as an elective all the way through H.S. if the student so chooses. My children attended NMS and they had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it.

Every person's experience is their own, however, for me the prior reviews are the exception. Schools are not a one size fits all, you have to find what works for your family and I respect that of the others. I attended catholic school my whole education and my children have as well. What I care about is the community and values that have been instilled in them from 3 years old through their teens. My children are safe at school with guidelines to follow, teachers and staff who watch for them, parents who will step in to help them and security at every turn. I feel the environment has given them a foundation that they will build on for their entire lives. During covid there were struggles for our city, but our children had the knowledge and resources of technology to get them up a running from home within days. Our faculty worked tirelessly to get the children back in class as quickly as possible. It also taught our children resilience and not to use excuses not to bounce back. I am happy that regardless of religious affiliation all students are welcome and all students are taught spiritual awareness and respect aligned with their beliefs. Regarding education, the classes are small and the teacher student ratio is great. My child was prepared both emotionally and academically for high school. I do feel we can always improve and be pushed more academically and know the school will work to align themselves with the current standards. I am extremely happy with our new principal and admire her dedication to growing the school and encouraging parent participation. Regarding the cost, yes it is a commitment but well worth it. I see plenty of parents willing to spend for travel sports nowadays and not education. We can all be guilty of spending on indulgences and not thinking of the cost but the return on spending on their education so young is far greater. Every organization has positives and negatives. We can either be part of the problem or the solution. The Catholic schools need the community's support to continue and Astoria is full of great people/businesses that can help to keep the area like a neighborhood. I am encouraged daily by the outpouring of support and generosity from our parents and community. People who are happy with the school do not think to write reviews but there are plenty of us. Reach out to the school, ask to speak with parents, visit for a day.

As a former parent, I was extremely pleased with the education my son received at Westlake. When he reflects back on his years there, he speaks very highly of the kindness and patience shown to him by his teachers. The middle school Language Arts program prepared him well for high school. To this day, he tells me he learned more about writing from Westlake than he did from his high school English teachers! My son discovered his love for music at Westlake as well, thanks to the time and energy his band teachers invested into him. Westlake's leadership is solid. They run a strong, gracious, and stable environment for the students. Most importantly, Westlake's teachers and leadership are serious about the faith formation of every student. I am thankful for the Godly examples that surrounded my son each day he was on campus. My only regret is that we did not become part of the Westlake family sooner. Thank you, Westlake Christian School, for the excellent work you do!

We came to Harvest Baptist Academy from one of the top ranked PA public schools - and the elementary education has exceded our expectations. Our 1st and 3rd grader are out-performing their peers in reading, math, and writing. The most important thing to us is the commitment to Biblical values though. We can see the growth in our kids in not only Bible knowledge but in the way they pray. It's a wonderful building and group of teachers.

A++ My 4 children call Citrus Park Elementary school the best school ever. Administration, Teachers, and staff have gone above and beyond to help all children succeed. I started as a parent volunteer, para I, Para II, then Paraprofessional of the year 2022- 2023, and now Assistant Principal Secretary. One small act can change a life. Citrus Park Elementary, I hold you dear to my heart and Love Our school family. Wings up Eagles Soar!
